Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL)
EAL uses interactions with horses on the ground (no riding typically involved, unless specifically designed) to help participants develop a variety of non-riding life skills. Horses are natural mirrors for human behavior, offering immediate, honest feedback without judgment. This makes them powerful teachers for self-awareness and personal growth.

Development programs
“Herd Leaders” – Building Confidence & Leadership:
- Focus: Problem-solving, communication (verbal and non-verbal), assertiveness, taking initiative, self-regulation.
- Activities: Leading a horse through obstacle courses, directing a horse without touching, understanding horse body language and how it mirrors their own.
- Benefits: Helps shy kids find their voice, teaches impulsive kids to think before acting, develops natural leadership qualities.
“Unbridled Connections” – Social Skills & Empathy:
- Focus: Teamwork, active listening, understanding boundaries, empathy, building trust, conflict resolution.
- Activities: Group challenges involving multiple participants and one or more horses, grooming and care routines, observing herd dynamics.
- Benefits: Improves peer interactions, helps navigate social situations, fosters a deeper understanding of others’ needs.
“Rodeo Ready Minds” – Resilience & Goal Setting:
- Focus: Perseverance, dealing with challenges, setting realistic goals, adapting to unexpected situations, managing frustration.
- Activities: Working through complex ground obstacles, learning to read a horse’s subtle cues and adjust their approach, reflection on successes and setbacks.
- Benefits: Builds grit and determination, teaches valuable lessons about effort and reward, applicable to academic or personal challenges.

“Mindful Horsemanship” – Stress Reduction & Self-Awareness:

Specialized Programs
“Pathways to Peace” – Trauma & Resilience (EAL component):
- Focus: Emotional processing, developing coping mechanisms, rebuilding trust, reducing hyper-vigilance.
- Activities: Groundwork exercises designed to create a sense of safety and predictability, guided reflection.
- Note: This would likely require partnership with a licensed mental health professional (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy – EAP), but Full Shone Equine could provide the EAL component under supervision.
“Family Fortunes” – Communication & Family Dynamics:
- Focus: Improving communication patterns, understanding different perspectives, setting healthy boundaries within family units.
- Activities: Family groups working with a horse on shared tasks, observing how family dynamics play out in the arena with the horse’s feedback.
- Benefits: Offers a neutral, non-judgmental space for families to identify and work through communication challenges.
